The East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad in Hanover County, VA was incorporated in July of 1969. The "Ladies" Auxiliary was created at about the same time to help serve the new volunteers of the squad and the community in which they work. At the completion of the first year of emergency service to the community of Eastern Hanover and the township of Mechanicsville, Va., we saw 31 new Senior Members called "Squadsmen" at that time, 15 Junior Members (ages 16 to 20), and 18 Ladies Auxiliary Members. It was the ladies who ran the calls during the day while the men worked, and the ladies could NOT spend the night during those first few years. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until the year of 1982 that the East Hanover VRS women could be allowed to become members of the squad!
Today, the purpose of the Auxiliary is to support and assist the Rescue Squad in any way possible, and to render service to our community. We hold fundraisers to provide equipment and supplies for our ambulances and EMS personnel. We provide dinners and refreshments for our duty crews and meetings. We hold an annual election of officers to guide us in all of the endeavors mentioned above.
If you would like to help out the East Hanover VRS, but don't feel that you can run calls, please consider joining the Auxiliary. For further information, please contact us at Auxiliary@ehvrs.org, or call our facilities at (804) 746-5883.
The East Hanover VRS Auxiliary is proud to be a part of the AVAVRS, or the Auxiliary to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads. For more information on this organization, please CLICK HERE.
By the way, we are no longer called the "Ladies" Auxiliary. The East Hanover VRS Auxiliary is proud to now include men in its volunteer roles!
AUXILIARY HOLDS ANNUAL RABIES CLINIC - MARCH 13, 2010
On what was supposed to have been a rainy Saturday afternoon, the rains did not come, and the sun was out for a portion of the day. The East Hanover VRS Auxiliary held its Annual Rabies Clinic with a grand total of 494 vaccines administered by the vet, Dr. Kathryn Hurley during the 3 hours of the event.
The clinic was a huge success for the Auxiliary, and as you can tell from the following photos, the event was warmly welcomed by our community. For more information about the Rabies Clinic, feel free to drop the squad an e-mail either to auxiliary@ehvrs.org, or simply CLICK HERE, and complete the form.

The clinic was successful due to the Hanover County Explorers lead by Officer Barry Bland. Traffic Control was at its BEST!
Enjoy the next few photos of some of our animals who visited us that day. We thank the owners for allowing these photos on the website.
Santa Arrives At East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad - December 13, 2009
During December each and every year, Santa arrives at East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad, to celebrate the holiday season by bringing together the families of the volunteers. The Auxiliary takes this season to celebrate all that the volunteers do during the course of the year, and bring their families together in the holiday spirit of giving. The EHVRS Auxiliary understands that the EMS personnel of East Hanover work hard during the year to bring Emergency Medical Services to the citizens of our fine community, and that once a year, they need to take the time for themselves and their familes in the time of friendship and companionship.
Such was the case on Sunday evening, December 13, 2009 during its Annual Santa Supper when Santa arrived to the wide eyes of the children of the volunteers. Enjoy the photos below from the East Hanover Auxiliary!
Our Auxiliary assembles at the start of the Santa Supper to say a few words and to thank the rescue squad personnel for all of the blessings they bestow on the community during the year.
Each family who came to the Santa Supper provided a "covered dish" for the event, a tradition at East Hanover. The food was excellent, well balanced, and quite diversified.
Friendships were renewed during the Santa Supper. The room was filled with friends and family, including generations of EMS personnel at East Hanover.
Then it was Santa's turn to talk to the children. Auxiliary President Angie Lymberg assists Santa asking one of our volunteer's children if they have been "naughty or nice."

Three times a year, the Auxiliaries from around the area, get together to share ideas, news, and information about squad operations, and your EHVRS Auxiliary is always well represented at these meetings.
