A Rich Tradition
The East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad in Hanover County, VA was incorporated in July of 1969. The "Ladies" Auxiliary was created at about the same time to serve the new volunteers of the squad and the community in which they work. At the completion of the first year of emergency service to the community of Eastern Hanover and the township of Mechanicsville, VA, we saw 31 new Senior Members called "Squadsmen", 15 Junior Members (ages 16 to 20), and 18 Ladies Auxiliary Members. It was the ladies who ran the calls during the day while the men worked, and the ladies could NOT spend the night during those first few years. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until the year of 1982 that the East Hanover VRS women could be allowed to become members of the squad.
Today, the purpose of the Auxiliary is to support and assist the Rescue Squad in any way possible, and to render service to our community. We hold fundraisers to provide equipment and supplies for our ambulances and EMS personnel. We provide dinners and refreshments for our duty crews and meetings. We hold an annual election of officers to guide us in all of the endeavors mentioned above.
If you would like to help out the East Hanover Volunteers, but don't feel that you can run calls as part of a crew on an ambulance, please consider joining the Auxiliary. For further information, please contact us at auxiliary@ehvrs.org, or call our facilities at (804) 746-5883.
The East Hanover VRS Auxiliary is proud to be a part of the AVAVRS, or the Auxiliary to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads. For more information on this organization, CLICK HERE.
By the way, we are no longer called the "Ladies" Auxiliary. The East Hanover VRS Auxiliary is proud to now include men in its volunteer ranks.

AUXILIARY HOLDS SUCCESSFUL RABIES CLINIC FUNDRAISER
SATURDAY, JANUARY 28, 2012
On a bright, clear, and sunny Saturday morning on January 28, 2012, the Auxiliary of the East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad held its Annual Rabies Clinic. With the start time set for 10:00 AM, patrons lined up at the squad building as early as 8:30 AM. Dr. Hurley, the veterinarian for the event, started giving vaccines at 9:15 AM to accommodate the huge crowd. The Auxiliary, in full force, along with members of the elite Hanover Hounds K-9 Search and Rescue Team, handled the crowd well. The Hanover County Explorers under the able direction of Deputy Barry Bland, kept the traffic moving through the area.
In total, 618 vaccines were given during the event. When calculated out, that would mean a vaccine was given approximately every 20 seconds. The Auxiliary thanks the community for their patronage. This event is so popular, that by researching the completed certificates, people came from Fredericksburg, South Hill, the Middle Peninsula, and the Tidewater area just to get their animals vaccinated.
Below, please sit back and enjoy watching the Auxiliary in action, as well as your furry friends in a slideshow photo-journal of the event. Perhaps you will find your pet, or your friend or neighbor's pet. Use the CONTACT US portion of the website to send your comments directly to the EHVRS Auxiliary, and send in that Membership Application to join their ranks. You may e-mail them directly at auxiliary@ehvrs.org.
AUXILIARY HOSTS ANNUAL SANTA SUPPER
TO A CAPACITY CROWD

Santa Supper brings our volunteer families together.
Santa Claus arrived at the East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad on December 10, 2011 to a crowd, ambitious to celebrate and revel in holiday cheer. Every year the EHVRS Auxiliary holds their Annual Santa Supper so that all members of the squad can gather together with their families to renew old acquaintances, talk about the year gone by, and to renew their dedication to providing the best in emergency medical services to the Hanover community. In addition, the Auxiliary presents to the running members of the senior squad, necessary equipment and supplies to be used in the new year. The funds for these gifts are collected from the Auxiliary's own fundraisers such as their Rabies Clinic scheduled for January 28th of 2012.
EAST HANOVER AUXILIARY ATTENDS ANNUAL VAVRS CONVENTION
SEPTEMBER, 2011
The East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary, represented by its President, Nancy Lee Martin, attended the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads' Annual Convention. The Auxiliaries from rescue squads throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia met this year in Virginia Beach, VA. Their mission is to support their squad during the year, and then share these ideas during the Convention. East Hanover is privileged to have such an active and dedicated Auxiliary as is illustrated on this web page.
If you are interested in joining the EHVRS Auxiliary, simply download the Auxiliary application at the bottom, complete it, then drop it off or call the squad to schedule a meeting.
In the picture to the right, please note that the Auxiliary meeting room was setup for its Memorial Service. May we remember and not forget about all our volunteers and friends who have gone before us.
